Japan - Gentlemen Take Polaroids

Japan and David Sylvian certainly had their critics back in the Eighties. Some adored them and cloned them. Some hated them.Whether you were a fan of the foppish bleached haired post blitz kid look that Mr Sylvian and co adopted or not. There was no doubting their talent. From the early coquetry replicas of the Giorgio Moroder sound with "Life In Tokyo" and Quiet Life" to the later albums such as "Gentlemen Take Polaroids" which was worth the price for "Swing" alone.
Personally I always thought David Sylvian wanted to be a little too much like Bryan Ferry, but when they made tracks like this I almost forgave them.

Bauhaus - Kick In The Eye

Whatever happened to Pete Murphy?
Bauhaus were one of my favourite bands back in the early Eighties.
Art school punk with a touch of goth thrown in-not that I was ever a goth!? Complete with on stage theatricals.
Always a great band to see live.
They explored new horizons with Kick In The Eye. A funky bass line and punchy beat-what were they thinking?Breaking the sound barrier? (Thanks Maxell)
This is the complete EP "Searching For Satori". Which also includes the tracks Earwax and the reggaefied Harry.
Enjoy!

Cabaret Voltaire - Voice Of America

Ah! Memories of bedsits in Maida Vale! An album I always used to put on when I came in pissed at 4 or 5 in the morning on the stereo hifi next to my bed. Always managed to soothe away the alcohol effect and set me off into a psychedelic dreamland.
More Floyd than the pinkie ones themselves.
A classic eighties album and my personal Cab Vol favourite.

The Disco Files 1973-1978

Anyone who has a keen interest in disco music and it's humble beginnings. Should check out Vince Aletti's book "The Disco Files 1973-1978". A fascinating insight early days of disco.
Something of a trainspotters delight with a weekly list of releases and some personal opinions and assessments of whats big in the clubs and who's who in the world of the discoteque.
More of a chronicle and a reference than a novel but a darn good fascinating read. If like me you are a fanatical black music fan.
